Details on our Race Timer, Speedometer and Finish Line Product

Early production release of Race Timer and Speedometer by Cook’s Projects. Suitable for Hot Wheels, Matchbox and all 1:64 scale cars

The Race Timer electronics are completely self-contained in a PLA box, available in a variety of colours and is also made from renewable resources.  Simply place the unit over 1, or 2 tracks (max track width 42mm [1.65"], Hot Wheels track compatible), plug in the power, choose the timer function you want, and race!  Actual speeds are displayed on the unit’s LCD in Km/h (Other speed units available via the datalink). All the information is shown on the onboard LCD and can be sent to a computer with greater precision for analysis and record keeping with the datalink option.  No track modification or other wires are needed. Simply place the product over the track at your chosen finish line or track measuring point. Powered by a standard USB connection (cable supplied).

The Race Timer also dual functions as a continuous speed gun or speedometer.  The Race Timer mode is selected at initial power up.

In Race Timer mode, prepare to race with a sound and light countdown sequence then instantly see the winning lane with the over lane LED. Check the detail of the race displayed on the LCD. Race time, time difference between cars, and actual speed at the finish line are displayed for each lane. Alternatively, select the Speedometer mode to instantly display the speed of every car that passes through the unit. The last speed remains displayed until the next car passes.

The unit can be easily moved, allowing actual speed measurements at any place on your track layout.  This allows so much more analysis of your track and car.  For example: What speed do the cars enter a corner?  What speed means they crash?  How much speed is lost, or gained, on a section of track?  Which car is faster and by how much?  All this information can be easily obtained and used for fun, or deeper investigation.

The Race Timer and Speedometer can operate in two modes. It can be either a:

  1. Race Timer.  Start a race with an audio and lights start sequence.  See the winning lane instantly by the over lane LED.  Measure the race length (to 1/100th second), the time difference between each lane in milliseconds (1/1000th of a second) and the speed of the car at the finish in Km/h.  One car crashed?  No worries.  The Race Timer will automatically call the race ended 10 seconds after the first car passes the finish line and display the winning car’s data.  After each race and a short delay, the unit resets to start another race. There is a pause and skip function if more or less time is needed to read the results.

  2. Speedometer (speed gun).  Continuously measure, and instantly display the speed of every car that passes through the unit.  Each lane is monitored and it's speed is displayed in Km/h on the LCD.

With the Advanced and Datalink models additional data and even more precise information can be output to a computer. Full resolution is measured at processor level in microseconds (µs - one millionth of a second) and greater precision is available to display.  These versions provide the actual speed of the car in Metres per Second, Kilometres per Hour and Miles per Hour, as well as the equivalent scale speed. Note: This function is only available on the Datalink and Advanced Race Timer and Speedometer versions when connected to a computer. If this unit is not connected to a computer then it functions exactly the same as the Standard Race Timer and the less precise data is displayed on the unit’s LCD.
