Does the Race Gate show speed and time?
I’m trying to build a track to add to my social media channel. Right now, it is about tests on the wind tunnel, but it will be appealing to test the same cars on a track.
Yes, the Race Gate does show speed and time.
The Race Gate, previously called the Race Timer, in race mode shows the total race time, the time difference between cars as well as the speed of each car as it passes the tunnel. In speedometer mode the Race Gate shows the speed of each car as it passes through the unit.
For what you suggest you wish to do, I would recommend the Advanced version. This version provides 7x greater accuracy than the basic and datalink models and includes data output via the USB cable. You can then keep a record of each race for more analysis later. You can see a project I did using the Race Gate at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zWHhfZPQ2iI.
The Race Gate provides a standard speed unit display on the LCD which is model specific, either Kph or Mph. However, when using the datalink the speed is provided in Kph, mph as well as meters per second and all to 3 decimal places. This provides greater precision than the LCD can provide allowing accurate analysis of an individual car’s performance as well as providing standard scientific units of measurement. The datalink also provides greater accuracy than can be displayed on the onboard LCD with times measured to 100,000th of a second or 0.1 microseconds.
You can see the detail and specification of each model at https://www.cooksprojects.com/race-timer-and-speedometer-specpage
I am sure that the Race Gate will provide more information about your cars and provide you with a lot more data that can be analysed and provide interest for your project.
